Belchertown Eye Care is a patient-focused optometry practice dedicated to providing high-quality vision and eye health services to the local community. With a reputation for personalized care and a welcoming environment, we are looking for a compassionate and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team and help support the daily clinical operations of our practice.

Position Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician will assist optometrists in delivering quality eye care by performing preliminary testing, documenting patient history, managing equipment, and helping ensure the overall efficiency of the clinical workflow. The ideal candidate is organized, friendly, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and prepare patients for examination, ensuring a comfortable and professional experience.

  • Take and record patient history, including medical, ocular, and family history.

  • Perform pre-testing procedures such as visual acuity, auto-refraction, tonometry, and visual field testing.

  • Conduct diagnostic imaging (OCT, fundus photography) and other tests as directed by the optometrist.

  • Assist in contact lens training and education.

  • Maintain clean and calibrated diagnostic equipment.

  • Accurately input patient data into the electronic health record (EHR) system.

  • Support front desk duties when needed, including scheduling and checking patients in/out.

  • Maintain a clean and organized clinical area following infection control protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as an ophthalmic or optometric technician preferred (but willing to train the right candidate).

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification or training in ophthalmic assisting is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.

  • Proficient with computers and comfortable learning new software systems (EHR/EMR).

  • Professional, dependable, and team-oriented attitude.
